A shift that's already underway
Every conversation I'm having with CDIOs and AI leaders at large enterprises is circling the same question: how do we make our systems work with AI agents without rebuilding everything?
The urgency is real. Agents are going to use enterprise software a hundred times more than humans will in the near future. Not as an incremental increase in usage — a categorical one. Agents don't sleep, don't context-switch, and don't stop at five o'clock. When they're deployed at scale, they become the primary interface through which your business systems get accessed.
If those systems aren't designed to work with agents, the agents work around them — or can't work at all.

What every software vendor is doing right now
Every major enterprise software vendor is launching an MCP server — an interface that allows AI agents to access their system programmatically, without a human navigating a UI.
Your ERP vendor's MCP server gives agents access to ERP workflows. Your CRM vendor's gives access to customer data. Your ITSM vendor's gives access to IT service management. Each one is well-designed — within its own walls.
The problem is the architecture that emerges when you have five, ten, or fifteen of them operating simultaneously.
Each vendor's MCP server is a door into one room. An enterprise running multiple MCP servers without a unifying layer doesn't have a secure building — it has multiple unlocked doors with no central access control, no unified authentication, and no visibility into what's moving between rooms.
The vendor MCP servers are not the problem. The absence of a governing layer above them is.
What enterprises actually need
A single governed gateway — an agentic front door — that sits above every system your enterprise runs on and every MCP server your vendors build.
What that gateway does: authenticate every agent before it touches anything, route every request to the right system with the right protocol, connect to systems that don't yet have an MCP server of their own, and enforce zero-trust access so every agent gets precisely what it needs and nothing beyond that.
This isn't a replacement for vendor MCP servers. It works with them — consolidating their access into a single controlled entry point rather than leaving each as a separate, independently ungoverned door.
